THE TYRONE TRAGEDY.

CHARGES OF MURDER AND STABBING.

PRISONER BEFORE MAGISTRATES.

The magisterial investigation into the tragedy which occurred near Killeter, County Tyrone, on 19th December, was resumed in Castlederg Courthouse to-day, before Captain Gosselin, R.M., and a number of other magistrates. The case aroused considerable interest in the district, and the Courthouse was crowded with spectators.

The accused man is John Kelly, Slievedoo, and he is charged with the murder of Roger M'Menamin at Meenakeerin, and also with stabbing another man named Joseph M'Elhill.

Mr. R.H. Carson, Sessional Crown Solicitor, Appeared to prosecute, and Dr, R. Burke defended.

It was alleged for the prosecution that as the parties were on the way home from Castlederg fair a squabble arose near Clegernagh, and that accused and deceased began to fight. They proceeded to Meenakeerin, and while deceased was in a shop belonging to a Mrs. M'Menamin Kelly came along the road and called on him to come out, and he would shoot and stick him. Deceased went out without his coat, and went up the road after Kelly, and they again started to fight, and it was alleged that accused stabbed deceased six times in the left side, and also stabbed M'Elhill when the latter tried to stop the fight. Deceased fell on the roadway, and was picked up unconscious, some witnesses expressed the opinion that he died within two or three minutes from the time the blow was struck.
